Here’s an extremely rare recording Mary Martin made in 1959: ‘Daughter
Of Silence’, a musical adaptation of Chopin’s ‘Nocturne op.9 no.1’ by

This is probably the first time these recordings
have ever been posted on the internet. Other than the LP releases, this
amazing recording has never been available again. I’ll be posting a few
of the tracks, Forgive the quality.

In 1965, during her London run in Hello Dolly!, Disneyland Records brought Mary Martin, back to the recording Studios to make this “Storybook” recording of The Sound of Music.
Riding the huge success of the newly released film version, the
producers used the slightly revised synopsis from the film, and the
illustrations accompanying the record all reflect the settings used in
the movie.

Rather than use “I Have Confidence” The took Mary Martin’s favorite verse from the reprise of “16 going on 17″ and fleshed it out in it’s place.

It’s wonderful to hear Mary Martin, revisit the songs she made famous during the original Broadway production in 1959.

THIS IS A RARE ONE. The only photo I have ever come across of Mary
Martin, performing the title song, in a TREE (on a hill) in the original
Broadway production of The Sound of Music.
