Being a first year at pesach was nice bc I got to chant the Mah Nishtana. Also I found the afikomen, and now our rabbinic intern has to sing „do you love me“ from fiddler with her girlfriend. And I got to open the door for Elijah… it’s hard, though. People are skeptical about my keeping kosher, as I’m prolly relapsing, and I lost 17 lbs in the past couple months and collapsed a couple times… but yeah…

The Augsburg Synagogue was dedicated on April 4, 1917. Today the imposing structure bears witness to a hundred years of history, including beginnings and upheavals, expulsion and flight, and the repeated resurgence of hope.

Wow.

Hashem, the almighty creator of the universe: Who wants this incredibly long and confusing book of rules that may or may not make any fucking sense
The Jews, who literally named themselves after a guy who tried to fight Hashem: WE WANT IT

Hashem, the almighty creator of the universe: Fuck. Fucking shit. Fucking hell I love them

Plot twist: we only want it so we can point out all the stupid shit.

The Jews, two seconds after receiving said book: Hashem, do you take constructive criticism on your posts?

Tu Bishvat is coming up!

Hey everyone! The holiday of Tu Bishvat is coming up in the evening of Jan 30th/day of Jan 31st (2018)!

Tu Bishvat” means “the 15th of Shvat.” (“Tu” is the letters tet and vav, which represent 15 in the Hebrew letter-to-number system. Shvat is the Hebrew month that started last night, and “b” means “in.”)

Tu Bishvat is considered the new year for trees. It’s one out of four Jewish new years days; the other three are Rosh Hashanah, the first of Nisan (simplified, the new year for kings and rental houses), and the first of Elul (simplified, the new year for cows).

Tu Bishvat occurs around the time the almond trees in Israel bloom. There are seven species associated with Israel and with Tu Bishvat: Grapes, pomegranates, figs, olives, dates, wheat, and barley.

On Tu Bishvat, many people have the custom of having a seder. This is unlike a Passover seder, except in that it involves the ritualistic eating of food: in this case, the seven species, as well as four categories of fruit based on presence of peels/pits, and white and red wine (or grape juice).

Tu Bishvat has also come to be associated with environmentalism.

Here are some info links. (Don’t feel pressured to read all of them, since they’re mostly just reiterating similar information. Just pick one, if you’d like.)

what the hell is going on in the diaspora this week?

first, there was an article in puerto rico’s largest newspaper, nuevo dia, entitled “qué quiere el judío con la colonia?” [”what does the jew want with the colony?”], arguing that “the jew” is responsible for the lack of aid to puerto rico, which “the jew” is withholding in order to punish
puertorriqueñxs

for bad capital returns. amazingly, the author’s addendum says that she regrets her writing was “interpreted” as antisemitic and that her article about how “the jew” controls congress and american capital was not antisemitic but rather a “contribution to public discussion” [x, x, x]

then two kosher markets in paris had swastikas painted on them, and a few days later, on the anniversary of the 2015 kosher market attack, both were burned down in suspected arsons [x, x, x]

then, while police were busy cracking down on anti-austerity protestors, the oldest synagogue in africa and two nearby jewish schools were firebombed in tunisia [x, x, x]

and all of this happened since just monday the 8th

And in all cases, we have goyim saying “That’s not antisemitism, it’s just antizionism.”

There’s a reason that many of us don’t see much difference. It’s you, the people who say these things about THESE THINGS.
