I think Mitzi Gaynor is very underrated! I love this woman. Also, this Gershwin song is a gem!

operaqueen:

Julie Andrews rehearsing Hello Young Lovers, from Philips’ 1992 recording of The King and I, conducted by John Mauceri of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and starring Julie Andrews, Ben Kingsley, Lea Salonga, Peabo Bryson, and Marilyn Horne.

This recording is extremely special, the entire team approach it with the level of respect usually given to classic Opera. Released in 1992, the recording was heavily promoted with an international campaign, including public appearances by Julie Andrews and Ben Kingsley in the U.S., Japan and Europe.

This rehearsal take from a
Television Special documenting the recording sessions which took place
in Culver City California in 1992.

Mary Martin and Wilbur Evans sing the “Dites Moi” finale and the “Born on the opposite side of the sea…” reprise of “Some Enchanted Evening” on the original London cast recording of South Pacific.

The last note is a delightful surprise.
